We have continued working on our handwriting, sitting correctly, holding our pencil correctly and slanting our paper for optimal formation of letters or numbers. In our guided reading groups, we have read and discussed non-fiction texts, identifying the features of these texts, then practising asking and answering questions. In building our comprehension, we continued rereading familiar text to build fluency and answering comprehension questions. Our writing has mainly been integrated with our UOI: Sharing the planet, where the students have been researching a chosen animal and its habitat. Earlier in the week, the students wrote about one event they experienced during the Eid break.<\/p>\n<p>For maths, this week, many students took the time post-assessment and we participated in Maths Week activities. All students made estimation of amounts of items in jars and also played a variety of maths games one afternoon. We have experienced fractions through games and will be working on fractions beginning next week. We continue practising our knowledge of number sense by finding number bonds to 20 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>For our UOI this week we have reviewed food chains and continued with our research on an animal and its habitat. Students have begun creating a triorama for their animal showing it in its habitat along with the plants and other animals who would live there. The location for the swap will be shared with you later.To ensure a better experience than last year, please inform parents of the following guidelines:\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"il\">Books<\/span>\u00a0must be in good condition and ready for swapping.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"il\">Books<\/span>\u00a0of poor commercial quality, magazines, textbooks, and activity\u00a0<span class=\"il\">books<\/span>\u00a0are not allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Each student will receive a ticket representing the\u00a0<span class=\"il\">book<\/span>\u2019s level and quality. The ticket will also enter the student into a prize draw at the end of the\u00a0<span class=\"il\">week<\/span>. Please make sure students keep their tickets, as losing them may affect their opportunity to receive a\u00a0<span class=\"il\">book<\/span>\u00a0and participate in the draw.<\/li>\n<li>Swaps will be conducted within the same grade level only.
