This week, students explored the power of photo editing and how small changes can dramatically shift the mood, feeling, and perspective of what an audience sees. Through experimenting with light, colour, cropping, and filters, they began to understand how photographers make intentional choices to communicate meaning. Students also engaged in deeper discussions about perspectives that matter to them personally \u2014 ideas, issues, or viewpoints they feel strongly about or want others to understand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next Steps for our unit is for students to choose one of these meaningful perspectives and begin capturing photographs that communicate a clear message. They should be able to start this over the weekend as some of their perspectives can\u2019t be captured on our school campus. They will think carefully about: What do I want my audience to feel?, what story am I trying to tell?, and how can angle, light, and composition strengthen my message?<\/span><\/p>\n

These photographs will form part of their Photography Exhibition which will be held on 11th March. More details about the exhibition will be shared soon \u2014 we are excited for students to showcase their thinking and creativity!<\/span><\/p>\n

In Maths, students explored different aspects of fractions, with a particular focus on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. They quickly realised how important strong multiplication fact knowledge is when finding common denominators and simplifying fractions. We spent time revisiting and practising times tables to strengthen fluency, as this supports not only fraction work but many other areas of mathematics.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Literacy, students analysed exemplar artist statements to identify common features and structure. Together, we discussed what an effective artist statement should include \u2014 such as inspiration, message, materials, and personal meaning. Students will now begin exploring who they are as artists to start the draft of their own artist statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
