This week, our Grade 11 Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) students swapped their textbooks for field gear to master the art of ecological surveying. By deploying quadrat sampling, a fundamental technique used by ecologists worldwide; students transitioned from theoretical concepts to hands-on scientific inquiry. The exercise required a sharp eye for biodiversity and precise mathematical application as they calculated population densities and estimated the abundance of local plant species. Beyond the technical data, the survey served as a vital exercise in collaborative fieldwork, requiring teams to coordinate effectively in a dynamic outdoor environment. This practical experience has not only provided a window into the health of our local ecosystem but has also equipped our students with the foundational analytical skills necessary for their future environmental studies.<\/p>\n
