Please let me know if you did not receive the unit flyer and I would be happy to resend it. The students have made a fantastic start to the unit.We began with a provocation where students carefully watched me use different facial expressions without speaking. After observing, students responded to inquiry-based questions, sharing what they noticed, how the expressions made them feel, and what messages they thought were being communicated. This sparked thoughtful discussion and helped students understand how we can express ideas and emotions without using words. We also explored expression through music, listening to different types of music and using lines, drawings, and a variety of colours to show how the music made them feel. Alongside this, students looked at different types of performances and discussed how acting, dancing, music, and other performance forms allow people to express ideas, feelings, and stories in different ways.

In Maths, we are continuing to strengthen number sense by practising patterns and counting forwards and backwards. Students are building confidence in understanding how numbers change, and quick questions at home such as “What number comes before?” or “What number comes after?” are a great way to support this learning. We also continued working on addition and subtraction, moving into double-digit numbers and, for students who were ready and looking for an extra challenge, three-digit numbers as well. Students learned how to carry and borrow using a variety of tools, including books, whiteboards, counters, and base-ten resources. We explored different strategies and approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to find what works best for them. This has helped students become more confident, flexible, and independent mathematicians.

In Literacy we have been working on improving the contents of our writing, in Literacy we focused on improving our skills in recount writing.
