We are exploring the Statement of Inquiry: <i data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"129\">Interactions reveal relationships that drive discovery and advancement.<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Students are currently working in specialized research teams to investigate &#8220;Fields of Interaction.&#8221; Each group is looking at how waves whether light, sound, or seismic interact with different mediums to change our world.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Fields of Research in groups:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"12\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Cosmic Context:<\/b> How the electromagnetic spectrum reveals the &#8220;invisible&#8221; universe.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Medical Context:<\/b> How ultrasound and X-rays interact with the body to allow &#8220;surgery-free&#8221; sight.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Global Context:<\/b> The role of Fiber Optics and Total Internal Reflection in high-speed internet.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,3,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Earth Context:<\/b> Using Seismic waves to map the Earth\u2019s core and Echolocation for animal survival.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,4,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,4,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Aesthetic Context:<\/b> How reflection and absorption of sound waves influence the architecture of concert halls.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Goal:<\/b> Groups are preparing a 6-slide presentation to teach their peers how these specific wave interactions have led to major technological and scientific advancements.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Grade 8 students have started their new unit focused on the Impact of Waves.
