This week in maths we finished up some length activities, then moved onto addition and subtraction within 100. We began by counting on and back by 10s and will move onto counting on and back by 100s. This means we are looking at a number, ie 58, then count back by a 10 = 48, or count on by 10 = 68, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will work with 2 and 3 digit numbers and practise a variety of subtraction strategies to solve problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

For literacy this week, we have met in reading groups, written new words using rhyming patterns and finished up our recounts of a story. After finishing our recounts we self-assessed for features of writing and then met with a peer for our peer assessments. This is a new concept for the students and they rose to the challenge! Please see your child’s work in their Seesaw journal. We have also worked on our handwriting, thinking carefully about where our letters and numbers begin and making sure we have switched our brains to using English rather than our home languages.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have begun our new Unit of inquiry: How we express ourselves, the flyer for this unit was shared in last week\u2019s Broadcaster if you would like to read more details. This week we began by listening to two different pieces of music, drawing what the music inspired and then creating a freeze frame of that music. You can see the students\u2019 expression of this music in our photos. We discussed the different types of performances we have had experiences of and how these forms allow people to express themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
