The trip provided an excellent opportunity to see how the concepts they are exploring in class connect to real-life applications. Students were fascinated to observe how forces are used every day to move, lift, and transport materials efficiently and safely. The team at Sohar Port were wonderful hosts, ensuring students were well looked after while learning in a hands-on and meaningful way.

Grade 6 – Brainy Bites & Camp
Our Grade 6 students have had an equally busy and engaging week! They began with a “Brainy Bites” workshop led by guests from the University of Science and Technology, exploring the science behind nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The students enjoyed experimenting, learning through movement, and even taking part in a lively Zumba dance session! Later in the week, they embarked on their overnight camp to Mussanah, where they participated in team-building challenges and activities that fostered collaboration, confidence, and leadership.

The camp also marked the beginning of their PYP Exhibition (PYPX) journey — one of my favourite parts of the Primary Years Programme. Over the coming months, our Grade 6 students will take ownership of their learning through personal inquiries that matter deeply to them. They will draw upon all of the Approaches to Learning skills and Learner Profile attributes developed over their years in the PYP. I wish our students, along with Mr. Matthew, Ms. Zahra, Ms. Meerah, and Ms. Mary Ann, every success as they begin this exciting and rewarding journey.

Looking Ahead – Oman National Day
Next week, we will celebrate Oman’s National Day on Wednesday, 20th November. This will be a student-only assembly, as space in the Mazoon Hall is limited when the entire school gathers together. Students are warmly invited to wear traditional Omani dress or clothing in the colours of the Omani flag to mark this important national occasion.

Before then, on Monday, I will be accompanying Ms. Karima and five students to Muscat to take part in a radio show called The Little Reader. Congratulations to the students selected to represent ABIS and a big thank-you to Ms. Karima for arranging this exciting opportunity.

Wishing all families an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Best regards,

Matthew

Primary Team Lead

Reminders at a Glance

Wednesday, 20th November: Oman National Day – student-only assembly; wear national dress or flag colours

Sunday, 23rd – Tuesday, 25th November: Book Fair (DC Books)

Wednesday, 26th – Thursday, 27th November: National Day Holidays

Dear Primary Families, It has been another full and inspiring week across the Primary School, filled with authentic learning experiences that connected our classrooms to the wider world.
