What an engaging week it\u2019s been in Grade 5! In our Unit of Inquiry, we continued to delve deeper into our new unit, exploring how a scientific understanding of forces and motion can help us solve problems. This week, students investigated whether heavier objects fall faster and explored the concept of air resistance. You might like to ask your child what they discovered about this\u2014many are now able to explain what air resistance means and how it affects falling objects. Students have also been developing their understanding of key scientific vocabulary connected to this unit and are encouraged to keep revising these important words at home.<\/p>\n

We were also proud to display our action from the previous unit, Who We Are. The new \u201cHow Are You Feeling?\u201d interactive wall display helps our Grade 5 community to stay aware of one another\u2019s emotions and reflect on our own. The students did an excellent job creating it!<\/p>\n

In writing, we focused on revising and editing our personal narratives, strengthening how students express and refine their ideas. In maths, we consolidated our understanding of rounding numbers and applying this skill in context.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, next week we\u2019ll continue investigating different types of forces in our Unit of Inquiry. In maths, we\u2019ll further develop our understanding of number, while in writing, we\u2019ll begin exploring procedural writing in the form of scientific reports\u2014perfectly connecting our literacy work with our scientific investigations.<\/p>\n
