{"id":322952,"date":"2025-10-09T10:25:49","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T06:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/?p=322952"},"modified":"2025-10-09T10:26:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T06:26:04","slug":"week-6-learning-highlights-and-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/2025\/10\/09\/week-6-learning-highlights-and-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 7 Learning Highlights and Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Dear Roblox Parents,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1ChG-sHOz9IMim3aZlsdDpm3KM1BL_-Bi?usp=sharing\">Photos Week 6<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">I was unwell for most of this week and have been in and out of school (your child may have mentioned this already), but despite that, we\u2019ve had a wonderfully engaging week of learning and inquiry in our classroom!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Our spelling continues to improve. I am very proud of the effort the children are putting into their word work, and for the parents a big thank you for encouraging them. From this week onward, I\u2019ve decided not to send spelling books home, as many students have been forgetting to bring them back on our Spelling test day (Thursday). Don\u2019t worry, I will still be sending the spelling list home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our main Unit of Inquiry led us this week to focus on Well-Being and our BIG concept word: Sustainability. We explored what these ideas mean to us as learners and global citizens. We read the imaginative book: \u2018<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If I Built a School<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019 by Chris Van Dusen and discussed how a school can be designed to support our physical, emotional, and social well-being. Students reflected on questions like:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What makes a space feel healthy and safe?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How can we design spaces that care for people <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the planet?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What does it mean to be responsible and balanced?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These reflections connected beautifully to our Learner Profile Attributes, especially <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Caring<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reflective<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, as well as the Concepts of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Responsibility<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Connection<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The children shared thoughtful ideas about classrooms filled with nature, calm spaces, and eco-friendly designs, they really impressed me with their creativity and empathy!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Language, we have been inquiring into Nouns:\u00a0 what they are, why they are important in our sentences, and how they help us describe and make sense of the world around us. I encourage you to ask your child what a noun is and see if they can give you examples from their everyday life. (You might hear about their : favourite <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">person<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">place<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">thing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">!)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">In Maths, our focus has been on 2D Shapes and developing our understanding of geometric vocabulary and precision. The students practiced using rulers to draw shapes on dotted paper, this really helped strengthen their fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and ability to follow steps carefully. They also used a creative website on their Ipad to design their own digital objects made entirely from 2D shapes, which they then replicated in their maths books using rulers. The combination of technology and hands-on learning was a big hit!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During Mental Maths, we discovered that some of our maths vocabulary needs reinforcing, both at school and at home,words such as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">before<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">after<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">smaller<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">greater than.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> These terms are essential for developing number sense and mathematical reasoning. We\u2019ll continue working on number bonds, addition and subtraction facts, and daily maths drills to build speed and confidence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the week, students have been demonstrating wonderful Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, particularly <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">thinking<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">communication<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> skills. They\u2019re learning to express their ideas clearly, listen to others, and make meaningful connections between what they learn and the world around them.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #000000\">Even though it was a slightly shorter week for me due to illness, I am so proud of how the students took ownership of their learning.
