Many of them can now count independently. We took the next step by learning about even and odd numbers. What do these words mean, and how can we tell if a number is even or odd?
We also discovered that we can count in jumps of two, which we call skip counting. We practiced this in a fun and active way: the children arranged the numbers from 1 to 20 in order and then jumped over every second number. It was an enjoyable and hands-on way to strengthen their number skills. The children also played the “Before and After” game with a partner to practice identifying which number comes before or after another.
At home, you can continue practicing by counting to 20 and back, and by asking your child which number comes before or after a given number.
We continue to work on our handwriting and reading skills every day. Over the past few weeks, we have focused on learning the sounds of the letters. Now, we are moving on to the special friends: ai, oa, ie, ee, and or.
During our Unit of Inquiry time, we are getting to know each other better by using a Venn diagram. This helps us see what we have in common and what makes us different. It’s a fun and meaningful way to strengthen our classroom community.
Our music lesson also brought lots of excitement and joy this week. I’ve included some photos from these lessons as well.

This week, our students continued developing their understanding of numbers up to 20.
