Hi Roblox’s Families,<\/span><\/h6>\n
What a week we\u2019ve had in The Roblox’s class! Let me walk you through everything we\u2019ve been up to (and what\u2019s coming up next).<\/span><\/h6>\n
Unit of Inquiry<\/b><\/span><\/b> We\u2019ve wrapped up the first part of our \u201cWho We Are\u201d unit ,though don\u2019t worry, this one is ongoing throughout the year. In December, we\u2019ll revisit it with a deeper focus on traditions and beliefs from our cultures. For now, we finished off with a really fun project: a culture collage where students drew images representing their country\u2019s culture. Then, they partnered with a classmate from another country to complete a Venn Diagram together, looking at similarities and differences. The conversations were so thoughtful! Students noticed that, even though our cultures may look different, we all share things like language, greetings, celebrations, special foods, and clothing.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
English<\/b>
\n<\/b> This week we practiced <\/span>colourful semantics<\/span><\/i>, a program that helps us build complete sentences. This will be one of our rotating centers, so I\u2019m making sure the students feel confident with it. We also worked with our short vowel tiles to build CVC words (this will also rotate in centres), and started practicing with Seesaw on the iPads and used Kids A-Z. Once WIDA wraps up , hopefully next week; we\u2019ll have <\/span>12 iPads<\/b> ready for our centers!<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Next week in phonics, we will dig into <\/span>closed syllable words<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
Maths<\/b>
\n<\/b> Math this week was all about data! We created tally charts and bar graphs using class data and looked at our favourite fruits. Students learned that a tally chart shows how many people represent something, and then we can transfer that data into a bar graph. We also emphasised that a good bar graph always has a title, plus labeled x and y axes so we can read it clearly. Feel free to ask your child to explain it to you, they should be able to walk you through the process!<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
New Unit: How We Organise Ourselves<\/b>
\n<\/b> We\u2019ve officially launched our new transdisciplinary theme! To kick things off, we went outside and looked at the places around our school that makes us happy and keeps us healthy (part of our well-being). Students recorded what they <\/span>saw, thought, and wondered<\/span><\/i>. Our new Central Idea is:<\/span> Community spaces can have a positive effect on its community members.<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/h6>\n
The big project for this unit will be group work: designing and creating their own community space that supports happiness and health.\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n
Looking Ahead:
\n<\/b>
\n<\/b> In English, we\u2019ll keep working on colourful semantics as a whole group, with the goal of completing our first <\/span>centre circuit by Thursday<\/b>. Centres will include: guided reading, colourful semantics, Nessy App, short vowel tiles, and learning how to post on Seesaw. Groups will be 4 students each.<\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n
In phonics, we will work on closed syllables and bonus letters, and move into blends and new digraphs.<\/span><\/h6>\n
In maths, students will take a pre-test on shapes. If you\u2019d like to help them review at home this weekend, go for it! We\u2019ll be learning about 2D shapes and their properties: name, number of sides, straight or curved sides, and how many angles.<\/span><\/h6>\n
