Even though it was a shorter week, it was filled with so much energy, learning, and creativity! The students have been hard at work and really enjoyed diving into new activities across all subjects.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In Maths, students completed their very first assessment, which gave us a chance to see what they already know and where we can grow together this year. Alongside this, we practiced ordering numbers, building number sense, and skip counting. We also began exploring the Months of the Year, and students loved connecting these to birthdays, celebrations, and special events in their lives. Practicing skip counting and the months at home will give them an extra boost, so thank you for supporting this outside of school too!<\/span><\/h4>\n

In Literacy, students completed a writing task where they shared a recount of their long weekend. It was wonderful to see their personalities and creativity come through in their stories! To model this, I shared my own recount about <\/span>The Weekend I adopted Luna, my kitten<\/span><\/i>, which they loved hearing. I also brought in my own shoebox autobiography, filled with special objects and memories. This linked beautifully to our Unit of Inquiry on Culture and Identity, as students could see how our experiences and values help shape who we are. At our learning centers, students rotated through stations on CVC words, digraph practice, and RazKids quizzes, building their phonics, spelling, and reading comprehension in fun and engaging ways. Their excitement for literacy is growing every day!<\/span><\/h4>\n

In Unit of Inquiry, students proudly completed their culture collages in their UOI Journals. These collages are a wonderful step in exploring identity and diversity. Next week, students will be paired with a classmate from another country and use their collages to complete a Venn diagram, comparing and contrasting their cultures. They\u2019ll begin to notice the uniqueness of each culture, while also discovering commonalities that connect us all.<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0Reading Reminder: Please encourage 20 minutes of daily reading (even at bedtime!) as this consistency makes such a difference in helping students grow as confident readers.<\/span><\/h4>\n
