I\u2019m sure KG1 families will agree that this really has been a busy week! On Monday, we were invited to be shoppers at the Grade 3 Mini Market, where the children enjoyed buying stickers, toy cars, pencils, lemonade, and cake. Yesterday was our long-awaited KG1 Superhero Day, and we rounded off the week today with the children performing in the Summer Concert this afternoon. Many thanks to all of you for your support this week in ensuring that all these events were both successful and fun!<\/span><\/p>\n

During Superhero Day, in addition to all their regular resources and areas of learning, the children were invited to engage in a wide range of superhero-themed activities, including designing their own masks, capes, and cuffs, reading superhero books, and completing superhero number puzzles. You can see photos from Superhero Day below.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our main focus for the day was how to be a <\/span>Superhero Upstander<\/span><\/i>. An upstander is someone who speaks up or takes kind, brave action when they see something that\u2019s not right \u2014 like when someone is being left out or treated unfairly. Instead of staying quiet, upstanders try to help, include others, or ask an adult for help. We started the day by reading an animated version of the book <\/span>One<\/span><\/i> by Kathryn Otoshi. In the story, Blue, who is timid, is constantly being bullied by Red, who is loud and often angry. The other colours initially do nothing, but when One, a new character, arrives and stands up to Red, the others find their courage and also become upstanders. We talked about how being an upstander is like being a special kind of superhero and discussed small ways the children can practise this, like inviting a friend to play, saying \u201cStop!,\u201d or getting a teacher if someone is upset. Later, they had the chance to put these ideas into practice by stepping in to help during a role-play scenario with puppets, where Puff the Magic Dragon was being unkind to Pete the Cat. Try asking your child about being an upstander!<\/span><\/p>\n
