Students now confidently use scarves and gestures to express emotions like “shy yellow,” “bold red,” and “peaceful blue.” We layered in simple rhythms using shakers and drums, helping children understand how emotions can also be heard and felt in music.

We also introduced stage presence through playful freeze-and-go games, helping them become more aware of the performance space and their audience. They’re almost ready to shine — with hearts full of color and sound!

🌈 Grade 1 & 2 – Weaving Story, Song, and Symbol

Grades 1 and 2 refined their performance pieces this week, connecting each song and movement to a story or cultural origin. They experimented with symbolic props — from feather fans to fishing nets — representing the themes of the songs they’re presenting.

Students explored mood and meaning by adjusting tempo, dynamics, and gesture. Our storytelling games evolved into short dramatic scenes with sound effects and narration — all performed in rhythm. Their confidence is growing, and their curiosity about musical traditions continues to light the way.

🎭 Grades 3–6 – Polishing with Purpose

Our upper primary musicians stepped into their roles as thoughtful performers. Rehearsals were marked by peer feedback, small group leadership, and goal-setting. Grade 3 and 4 honed transitions between scenes, while experimenting with staging and spatial awareness. Grade 5 and 6 integrated their original lyrics and gestures into full run-throughs, practicing mindful pacing and expressive delivery.

Discussions this week centered on audience impact — how music, movement, and message come together to tell a compelling story. Many students reflected on their personal growth through journaling and video documentation, tying in beautifully with the IB learner profile traits of risk-taker, communicator, and reflective thinker.

🎶 Beyond Performance: Music as Dialogue

In every class, music remained a bridge — not just between rhythms and words, but between cultures, emotions, and identities. From samba beats to Sudanese lullabies, students are learning that performance is more than memorizing — it’s about connecting and communicating.

🌟 Looking Ahead: Lights, Camera, Confidence!

As we move into final performance rehearsals next week, the energy is high and the spirit is strong. Every class is showing not only artistic skill, but collaboration, empathy, and excitement. We can’t wait for you to see their hard work come to life on stage.

In the meantime, keep the conversations going at home.
