In Maths, students were reminded that fractions represent parts of a whole. We practised simplifying fractions using our human fraction responses from last week. While students are still working on simplifying to the lowest terms, they are making progress. We also revisited how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators before moving on to those with unlike denominators.<\/span><\/p>\n

During UOI, students inquired into the power of editing and perspectives. In groups, students looked at several different photos that used different techniques when editing, and they worked together to identify the feelings being portrayed as well as what techniques the photographer used. Please check this out on Seesaw! They also had several opportunities to edit photos they had taken using different tools such as the built-in photo editor, Procreate, Magic Studio, and Canva. It was wonderful to see the students collaborating and supporting one another as they explored these platforms\u2014especially when they quickly realised that <\/span>they<\/span><\/i> were the experts, <\/span>not <\/span><\/i>the teachers! We explored different digital devices in groups, identifying what their purpose is and how they help to share ideas or emotions. Some devices included a VR headset, green screen, digital drawing tablet, sound mixer and more! Lastly, we introduced students to the idea of creating a portfolio of their photographs. After looking at several examples, we focused on the \u2018why\u2019 behind their portfolio which helped to hone in on a theme for their portfolios.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In literacy, we worked on adding details that helped students to use their words to paint a picture for others to see. They started with a photograph and had to write a detailed description for their classmates to imagine it in their minds, before we revealed the photo to them! It was a fun way to see if they can accurately and descriptively describe the photograph which will be helpful when describing their own photos. We also started to write our artist statement which will go along with their portfolio. Students wrote an introduction using three words to describe how they see themselves as an artist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
