This week we said goodbye to the potato athletes as we buried them in a special spot in the school garden. Maybe these will produce the future athletes for next year\u2019s Grade 5? On Tuesday morning, Grade 5 were the athletes as they started their day with a fun run around the field, getting some fresh air and exercise! It was a nice way to start our morning. We ended the week with being audience members for a sneak preview of the Secondary Winter Concert and WOW, was it fantastic!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our Arabic students worked extremely hard this week sitting for their MOE exams. It was a fun way to learn some facts about space! We engaged students and encouraged them to be inquirers, creating strong questions related to space. We did this by first introducing them to our specified concepts (used to be known as key concepts); form &#8211; what is it like?, change- how does it change?,\u00a0 and connection- how is it connected to other things?. In small groups, they were given questions that they had to sort into the three types of questions, having great discussions along the way to explain their thinking and debating where it belongs. After this, students used sentence starters to create their own form, change and connection questions. We also started to look at our planet and the relationship between the Earth, the Sun and the Moon and how this controls, days, nights and seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Maths, students focused on reading numbers with decimals and identifying the place value of digits to the right of the decimal point such as tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. We talked about the importance of where the decimal point goes to separate whole numbers from part numbers ahead of getting into some multiplication strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There were so many photos from this week, please check them all out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1-Rkb_4ZBI-PWdzrOJ6Vq8zF9tYdVS0af?usp=drive_link\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Looking forward to next week:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will begin to explore how our solar system works and the scale and placement of the planets within it. In maths we will be looking at different multiplication strategies such as box method, partial products and standard algorithms. Please ask your child next week to show you a multiplication strategy!
