Grade 8 students have begun an exciting new unit in MYP Visual Arts, exploring the art of printmaking with a focus on the theme of nature. This unit introduces them to the creative and technical process of relief printmaking, where designs are carved into a raised surface, such as linoleum. Ink is applied to the raised areas, while the carved sections remain blank, creating bold and dynamic contrasts in the final prints.<\/p>\n

To kickstart their artistic journey, students explored the school campus, capturing photographs of nature, architecture, and human activity. These images served as inspiration for their initial thumbnail sketches, helping them explore a range of compositions. After evaluating their ideas, they developed detailed final sketches, which will act as guides for carving their linoleum blocks.<\/p>\n

As they move into the next phase, students are excited to bring their designs to life through the printmaking process. This hands-on experience not only sharpens their artistic and technical skills but also encourages them to challenge themselves, demonstrating the IB learner profile attribute of being risk-takers.<\/p>\n
