This week, Grade 11 students began an exciting exploration of DNA, the fundamental biological molecule that underpins the treatment of many diseases. Understanding the structure of DNA is crucial, and students engaged in hands-on activities to reinforce their learning through model-building.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this activity, students constructed models of DNA, allowing them to visualize its double helix structure. They identified the building blocks of DNA\u2014nucleotides\u2014and practiced pairing the nitrogenous bases: adenine with thymine, and cytosine with guanine. This hands-on experience enhanced their grasp of the molecular composition and the significance of base pairing.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the unit progresses, students will delve into the processes of transcription and translation, gaining insights into gene expression and its implications in biology and medicine.
