Another action packed week in Grade 6. I was not here today (Thursday) as I traveled down to Muscat to present at a teacher\u2019s conference being hosted at ABA School.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unit of Inquiry<\/b><\/p>\n

In our conflict themed unit we have been analyzing conflicts within our lives and the world. We started with internal conflicts, then we moved slowly outwards until we reached conflicts on a global scale. The children then subsequently chose one of these conflicts to start a deeper inquiry and research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy<\/b><\/p>\n

The children created covers for their narratives. Then, connected with their conflict inquiries, they learnt how to build a Google Site – a website where they can store their research. This will be a really important tool to use during the PYP Exhibition. We have also progressed on to week 2 of our book clubs. please ask your child about their club and what they are currently reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maths<\/b><\/p>\n

We started the week by looking at the form of percentages and how to turn a decimal number or fraction into a percentage. Then we inquired into the strategies to calculate the percentages of a number, e.g. 25% or 60. We then pivoted slightly into our new mini mathematics inquiry into chance and data – the central idea is\u00a0 <\/span>“Understanding chance and data empowers us to make informed decisions and predictions.”<\/span>. We have already looked at the language of chance and probability, as well as doing a deeper dive into the math behind the chance game of \u2018Rock – Paper – Scissors\u2019 (RPS). The week ended with a huge RPS tournament. Ask your child about this dramatic and surprisingly emotional contest. Photos below.<\/span><\/p>\n
