Make this a warm and loving time when the two of you can cuddle close.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Give everything a name<\/h3>\n<p>Build your child\u2019s\u00a0<span id=\"glossary-term--1\" class=\"glossary-term\" title=\"Knowledge of the meaning and pronunciation of words.\n\" role=\"term\" aria-describedby=\"glossary-definition--1\" aria-expanded=\"false\">vocabulary<\/span>\u00a0by talking about interesting words and objects. For example, \u201cLook at that airplane! Those are the wings of the plane. Why do you think they are called wings?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Say how much you enjoy reading<\/h3>\n<p>Tell your child how much you enjoy reading with him or her. Talk about \u201cstory time\u201d as the favorite part of your day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Read with fun in your voice<\/h3>\n<p>Read to your child with humor and expression. Use different voices. Ham it up!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Know when to stop<\/h3>\n<p>Put the book away for awhile if your child loses interest or is having trouble paying attention.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Be interactive<\/h3>\n<p>Discuss what\u2019s happening in the book, point out things on the page, and ask questions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Read it again and again<\/h3>\n<p>Go ahead and read your child\u2019s favorite book for the 100th time!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Talk about writing, too<\/h3>\n<p>Mention to your child how we read from left to right and how words are separated by spaces.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Point out print everywhere<\/h3>\n<p>Talk about the written words you see in the world around you.
