We are excited to share with you that we have completed our first Unit of Inquiry (UOI), “Who We Are,” and have now started our second UOI, “How We Organize Ourselves.” This week, the students began exploring an engaging provocation where they compared natural land with human-made spaces, specifically focusing on our school, ABIS. Our central idea for this UOI is that community spaces can positively impact the well-being of their members. In class, we will be discussing the importance of well-being and how our environment can influence it, either positively or negatively.<\/p>\n

In math this week, the students learned about a type of graph called a Line Plot<\/strong>. We conducted a fun hands-on activity where students traced their hands in their workbooks, measured the distance from their wrists to their longest fingers, and then created a classroom line plot to visualize the hand spans of all their classmates. It might be fun to ask your child about the average hand span in the class\u2014encouraging them to explain what they did in class helps reinforce their learning!<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to next week, we will dive into poetry! We will start by creating Acrostic Poems<\/strong> using the students’ names, which will be a creative way for them to express their personalities. After that, we will explore Haikus<\/strong>, a traditional form of Japanese poetry that focuses on nature and the seasons. Finally, we will end the week by introducing Limericks<\/strong>, a fun and playful form of poetry that I\u2019m sure the students will enjoy as much as I will enjoy teaching them!<\/p>\n
