Another exciting week in Grade 6 has flown by at record speed. The highlight of the week was watching members of our community presenting with such confidence at the Primary assembly. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of so many of your peers – so well done to those involved today. At future assemblies, other Grade 6 will have the opportunity to lead and play a more active role.<\/span><\/p>\n

In our migration unit we have been focusing on the second line of inquiry \u2018<\/span>Impacts of migration on individuals, communities, and societies\u2019. <\/b>To do this we have been looking at real life stories of children who have had to migrate to different parts of the world. We have been thinking about how their migration changed them, the difficult choices that they had to make and how the lives of those left behind are impacted.<\/p>\n

In Mathematics this week we have made excellent progress in our stand alone unit about fractions. We have been defining the different parts of a fraction, comparing fractions in ascending and descending order (using a common denominator), plotting fractions on to a number line and finding fractions of a set, both when the numerator is 1 and when it is greater than one. See seesaw this week for more information and some examples modeled by your child.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Literacy we have been pushing on with the drafting of our personal narratives. In particular we have been focusing on creating an engaging hook at the start of our story, creating a strong first paragraph that connects with the reader and sets the scene for the story. We have also started looking at transition words to help create a good pace to each story and how to use paragraphs to give the story structure too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next Week<\/b><\/p>\n

Unit of Inquiry – we will be considering future migrations that we might make us we grow older. Specifically looking at how these journeys might impact us, our families and the communities effected (new and old). This should be a nice opportunity for students to do some research and to daydream a little about ‘possible’ future migrations around our world . \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mathematics – as we continue our unit on fractions, we will explore:<\/span><\/p>\n
