We started by practicing the /p/ sound by pretending to puff out a candle—just like the gentle puff of air needed to say /p/. The children were excited to discover that popcorn also makes a “popping” sound! To reinforce the sound, we played a Popping Popcorn Game, where the children “popped” like popcorn every time they heard a word starting with the /p/ sound. They were great at listening and identifying the sound! Our letter hunt took us to the sensory tray, where the children searched for hidden letter P’s and then practiced writing the letter in sand. We also used rainbow writing to make colorful, creative letter P’s.To finish our week, we listened to the sound of popcorn popping and created a fun popcorn craft. It was a popping good time, and we can’t wait for more phonics fun next week!

Photos

End of Week Update This week in our phonics lesson, we explored the letter P and had so much fun learning about its sound!
