We have welcomed 4 new students into our class over the past week or so. Please welcome Hilal, Wasaif, Chaea, and Ananya to our wonderful Grade 5 ABIS community! Their peers have been taking great care of them ensuring that they get from class to class and showing them our routines and systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This week has been jam packed with learning research skills such as note-taking of key words from different sources. Students\u2019 conducted research about their influential person, or their role model, or someone who is an inspiration to them. Students\u2019 focused on the main parts of the biography such as early life and family life, as well as achievements. An added section was one of their open-questions that they asked about their person, some questions included \u2018How did this person become famous?\u2019 \u2018What rights was this person standing up for?\u2019 \u2018What challenges did this person face?\u2019 and much more! After taking their notes, students started these and turned them into sentences and their sentences developed into paragraphs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Maths, we had a focus on reading and writing numbers, and we inquired into different ways people say numbers depending on the part of the world they are from (with a focus on America vs. UK). Students worked on comparing numbers using greater than, less than, and equal signs (>, <, =). Mathematicians practised rounding numbers to different place values as well as ordering numbers from smallest to largest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking Forward to NEXT WEEK:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

We will be wrapping up our unit of inquiry by having students connect the person they researched for their biography to beliefs and values as well as to the influence this person had within their community or the world. On Monday<\/span> they will be acting the role of their chosen person<\/b>, and will be interviewed by reporters (other classmates) who will be able to learn a bit more about that person. Students <\/span>are welcome to dress up<\/b> as their characters on this day, to make the experience a bit more authentic. <\/span><\/p>\n

We will be wrapping up our unit of inquiry by having students connect the person they researched for their biography to beliefs and values as well as to the influence this person had within their community or the world. Our trip to Fizah will link nicely to the roles and responsibilities people have within a community. Students will publish their biographies on the influential person they chose and share with their classmates.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Maths, we will be wrapping up our place value focus with some revision and our end of unit assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have an exciting week ahead as we embark on our first field trip in Grade 5 to Fizah. Please RETURN Permission slips <\/span>by Sunday 29th<\/b> at the latest.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 1 October<\/b>, students <\/span>NEED TO BRING:<\/b> Wear Good Walking Shoes, Packed Lunch and Snack, Hat, Water Bottle, and Sunscreen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please note that <\/span>Thursday, 3rd October, is a school-free day<\/b> as our teachers will be participating in a professional development session. However, the school administration office will remain open for parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

A REMINDER<\/b> that <\/span>swimming<\/b> is part of our PE Curriculum, therefore all students <\/span>must<\/b> participate unless they have a medical excuse. Please ensure your child is bringing their swimming costume on their swimming day (Boys- Sunday, Girls-Monday). If there is any reason for your child NOT to swim, a parent needs to email either the homeroom teacher or PE teacher (Ms. Dorothy <\/span>d.dorothy@abisoman.com<\/span><\/a> , or Mr. Fernando<\/span> f.beukes@abisoman.com<\/span><\/a>) or contact Ms. Eiman.<\/span><\/p>\n
