The primary students in GRADES TWO, THREE AND FOUR<\/strong> have been rehearsing hard to finish off the Folk Dances and to get the Dhofari dances under their belts. Their performance is coming up quickly too – next week on November 5th!<\/strong> \u00a0The international nature of the dances and the fact that it is a form of expression has links to different Units of Inquiry in their classes.<\/p>\n

A couple of weeks ago, I posted the dance wear requirements<\/strong> for GRADES TWO, THREE AND FOUR. \u00a0I have re-posted them below in case you missed the first posting! \u00a0Below I have added requirements for the Dhofari Dances which are the same for all three classes.<\/p>\n

Grade TWO is doing the Kalapati, or the Filipino Dove Dance<\/strong>. \u00a0Girls are asked to wear long skirts, any colours and long sleeved tops, any colour. No logos or words please, but printed designs are fine. \u00a0Boys are to wear white tees with NO logos or words or any other colours and long dark pants\/trousers (ie navy, black, very dark brown). Their shoes must not slip easily off their feet.<\/p>\n

Grade THREE is doing the Mexican Bottle Dance.<\/strong> \u00a0The girls need to wear a long brightly coloured skirt, preferably one that is wide, rather than straight. \u00a0The boys need to wear LONG dark coloured trousers\/pants. \u00a0Both must wear white tops without any logos, prints, other colours. \u00a0It can be any style, but white all over. \u00a0They can wear shoes that will stay on their feet (as they have some fancy footwork)!<\/p>\n

Grade FOUR is doing a dance from France called the Guimbarde.<\/strong> \u00a0Girls are to wear a coloured skirt that reaches the knees, preferably not a straight one, and a white top with no designs, logos or any other colours. Boys are to wear long shorts, any colour but no prints or words please and a white tee shirt, no logos or designs. \u00a0The shoes must stay on their feet as they jump around a bit.<\/p>\n

For the DHOFARI DANCES<\/strong><\/p>\n

All boys<\/strong> must bring a dishdasha<\/strong>. \u00a0If they have a moussab<\/strong> (the turban<\/strong> not the cap) for this dance they tie it around their waists. \u00a0Feet can be bare.<\/p>\n

Girls<\/strong> – the Dhofari dress is specific to a region and we know that not everyone has access to one so the school has invested in a number of dresses for this and future performances. IF your daughter has a DHOFARI DRESS<\/strong>, please let us know – it would be fun if she could wear it in the performance. \u00a0IF not<\/strong>, then rest assured we will be using our resources for the dance. IF you are unsure<\/strong>, please see Miss<\/strong> Khadija<\/strong> who as always has been a constant guide and source of support! \u00a0Feet are bare as well.<\/p>\n

For the other classes, they are presently working on learning dances for their performances coming up after the November break. \u00a0Stay tuned!<\/p>\n
