During this year’s Book Week, Primary students have been “musicalizing” two stories of the Pout-Pout fish. One is a review from last year, The Pout-Pout Fish, and one is the highly anticipated prequel, The Pout-Pout Fish Goes To School. Students have a blast singing along with the stories, both of which teach morals about happiness and self-confidence. The music that is sung also lets students experience singing melodies in both minor (more sad sounding) and major (more happy sounding) keys. <\/p>\n

One Music Tip: While you are at home, you should encourage your students to sing these songs, and even teaching them to you! Parents\/caregivers are students’ number one musical models and your active listening and participation sets a great example, no matter your current musical ability. Any worry that you “singing out of tune” will harm your childs development is not applicable; your students are exposed to many sources of “in tune” singing, and your example as an interested music-maker is the most important part. So, ask your students to teach you the songs! You won’t regret it!<\/p>\n
