Dear Parents and Students,<\/span><\/p>\n

Another busy week. Please see below for notices and highlights.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three way Conferences<\/b><\/p>\n

Thank you to everyone that has come along to our 3 way conferences this week. During these conferences, students were able to present what their learning goals are as well as how they will work towards meeting these and how we may work together to support children’s learning. It has been great to see so many parents and share this short but important time connecting with you.\u00a0 I know that our students\/ your children have really enjoyed sharing their learning with you as well. Thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading and writing<\/b><\/p>\n

This week, students continued to work in their reading book clubs looking at social issues. In the near future students will expand on their character analysis in the form of a literary essay outlining and making connections with social issues from within their chosen books. At this point in the sequential development of reading and writing skills students are working to complete frameworks such as <\/span>\u2018Character<\/span><\/i> in <\/span>book title<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Author<\/span><\/i> is likeable\/ unlikeable because\u2026because\u2026because\u2026\u2019 or <\/span>\u2018Character<\/span><\/i> has the most power in <\/span>Book title<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Author<\/span><\/i> because\u2026because\u2026because\u2026\u2019 and to provide evidence for their statements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Making a claim and substantiating this based upon evidence is a wonderful life skill to develop. Please do talk with your children about this.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mathematics<\/b><\/p>\n

This week in Maths, students have recapped and progressed through ratios, unit rates, to fractions and are now beginning to work on solving problems involving decimal division. Photos of the kinds of problems and some examples working out are included in this week’s pictures folder. Please feel free to browse these, try a couple yourself and maybe work a couple out with your children.\u00a0 Your involvement in this would be valuable as we work through these real life problem solving situations because this will add importance, relevance and context to developing these skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Integrated UOI<\/b><\/p>\n

This week learners have focussed on developing an understanding of some of the social issues that exist in the sphere of internet use as well as looking at defining and exploring rights and responsibilities around the use of internet capable devices (Digital citizenship).<\/span><\/p>\n

Homework<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you for your continued support with home learning. As a minimum, homework should consist of reading and mathematics and take no more than one hour per day. Students are provided with a home learning task sheet to complete every week however if they are unable to complete this please write a note regarding this on their homework books and continue to sign this as a record that you have sighted their books. If you have any questions about home learning please do not hesitate to contact us about this.<\/span><\/p>\n
