Year-to-Date: 1,555; October 2023: 28.9; Last Week: 41.5<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the time of year when I need to be flexible with myself, my goals, and who I am in this particular place at this particular time. What I mean by that is how important my training ebbs and flows. For example, just last week I declared how autumn (and a better air temperature) seemed to be on us. What a difference a week makes! This week was definitely as hot as early last month with much more humidity. As such, I walked more than I ran and I trotted much more than I jogged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Learning and teaching are much the same in that there are ebbs and flows or there are times when everything is running smoothly in the learning community and times when everything is not as smooth as either planned or expected. As Mr. Glen Nicholson and I constantly remind each other and the students the learning process is much more essential than the product or the result of learning. We had a great seventh week shifting to more self-directed learning as everyone is in various stages of their learning process to finish work before the term break. Home Learning – aka Homework<\/b><\/p>\n

Thank you for your continued support to help our students take complete and total responsibility for their learning at home. This shows the importance of completing work at home to consolidate learning from school. This also give you\u2013parents\u2013insight into your child(ren)\u2019s learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iceberg Model of Intercultural Understanding<\/b><\/p>\n

There was a lot of fantastic learning and teaching happening in G6 this week. One of the more interesting activities was for students to use the \u201ciceberg model\u201d to investigate who we are within the boundaries of one or two topics. Students formed groups, chose a topic \u2018under the waterline\u2019 on this model, researched their topic, took notes, and unpacked what this meant from a local as well as global perspective in a digital presentation.Many students gave presentations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Approaches to Learning (AtLs)<\/b><\/p>\n

Students are beginning to understand that motivation, expectations, confidence, and so on ebb and flow. One way to monitor learning and track progress is through self-assessments. Students did just this by reflecting on their AtLs and their progress in academic subjects. Over the next few weeks, I\u2019ll continue to have conferences with each and every student about how their perceptions align with my observations and evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n
