We don’t just give them information to memorize; we help them explore, ask questions, and think about who they are, who others are, and the world around them. We guide them to learn not just facts but also to really understand things, develop useful skills, and grow into thoughtful and caring people who can make a difference in their lives, their communities, and the world.

Pillar Two: Learning & Teaching

At the heart of the PYP there is a focus on inquiry where students and teachers work together. We explore six big ideas (transdisciplinary themes) that help us understand universal concepts and issues in our world. This helps us connect what we already know with new ideas to learn even more. We emphasize collaboration and we use reflection as a means of monitoring how we’re doing to make sure we’re getting better at learning.

Pillar Three: The Learning Community

The PYP isn’t just about what happens at school. It’s about everyone who helps make our school great and the important people in your child’s life. It’s also about the bigger world outside of our school. All of these people can help your child learn and grow. We work together to make our school a safe place to learn. We want our students to feel happy and we want them to become lifelong learners..

If you have any questions about what we do or if you want to talk about your child’s learning, please do contact your child’s homeroom teacher. We’re here to help!

Best regards,

Matthew

Primary Team Lead

Reminders:

Wednesday 11th October (8:00 – 9:30 am): Parent Workshop: Introduction to the Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Dear Primary Families, As we complete another exciting week of learning, I wanted to write about an important part of our school’s approach to teaching – something we call the Three Pillars of the PYP Curriculum.
