{"id":292999,"date":"2023-09-07T15:02:24","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/?p=292999"},"modified":"2023-09-07T15:47:38","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T11:47:38","slug":"g4-week-3-assessments-and-goal-setting-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/2023\/09\/07\/g4-week-3-assessments-and-goal-setting-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"G4 Week 3- Assessments and Goal Setting Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greeting Friends and Family,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another fully packed week has passed.\u00a0 Students are increasing their awareness of routines and expectations and are doing excellent with assessments and goal setting.\u00a0 To see photos from this week, please <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/15JQCb_wd3w8sR9yzFpFpgG2kvPIhi4w7?usp=drive_link\">click here.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What We Did in Week 2:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Math:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Using last week\u2019s fast fact assessment, students graphed their results and used this information to make their first round of math goal setting.\u00a0 Many want to increase their knowledge and speed involving their fast facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students took to the white boards and worked in teams to solve magic triangles.\u00a0 In doing this, we applied our knowledge of the new vocabulary word, decomposition, and recognized strategies in problem solving. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students learned four new math games to help assist with their knowledge of place value as well as their fact fluency &#8211; BUMP to practise addition &amp; spelling, Spinner games related to finding 10 more or less than a number, modified versions of the popular Yahtzee games based on Place Value of whole numbers, Heads Up\/War game to practise +, -, x and <\/span><b>\u00f7<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Problem solving skill &#8211; Students changed their seating based on height order in which they had to come up with a way to do this quietly which included arranging themselves in a line according to their heights and filling up seats in the order of their increasing heights.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Language &amp; Integrated Unit of Inquiry:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>WIDA speaking assessments were taken<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reading assessments are being ticked off<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beginning to tune-in to ATL\u2019s- Approaches to Learning. During game play, students get a chance to interact with their peers, boosting their communications , teamwork, and sportsmanship- invaluable skills that extend beyond the classroom!\u00a0 Our whiteboard work help students develop communication, thinking, and their perseverance skills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students did a fun write up on \u2018All About Me\u2019. Students got to choose the amount of M&amp;M\u2019s they needed and as a consequence, they had to write as many sentences as the number of M&amp;M\u2019s they had scooped out. They also had a sip of 7-UP with a consequence which meant all their sentences should be more than 7 words each.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>How You Can Help at Home<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spend some time with your child reading their FMJ, reviewing their math goals and writing your reply for this week.\u00a0 Once you know where they want to go, encourage and help them be successful.\u00a0 FMJ\u2019s are free writes where your students have a chance to reflect and remember about the past week\u2019s activities.\u00a0 This is a challenging task and they work hard to express themselves.\u00a0 Please take the time to respond in an appreciative and encouraging manner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ask them about the math games they learn and play it with them. Ask questions and have discussions.
