A busy and fun week has passed! \u00a0The students have settled into their dance lesson routines, particularly getting used to consistent warm ups, improvisation exercises and cool downs and stretches.<\/p>\n
For our littlest dancers, we have continued with moving across the floor in different ways, managing a UOI connection where we explored how we moved when we were babies as compared to nowadays. \u00a0The use of the scarf in dancing was further explored, where the movements of our arms helped create different kinds of shapes in the air and on the floor. Fast and slow dancing remains a popular favourite as does hiding like a mouse and growing like a flower. Investigating how our limbs move continues to be revisited, from rises to crouches, from bounces to rolling.<\/p>\n
Our K3-grade 2 students have been looking at how body movements can be combined in different ways – and how the movements can be altered when dancing on the spot or travelling; or when making a continuous, sustained movement compared to a movement that requires pauses and moments of suspension. Games like “Copy Cat” and “Mirror Moves” enable the development of focus and concentration.<\/p>\n
Our middle primary and upper primary have continued to focus on MOTIF. \u00a0They are slowly developing the understanding that a motif is not a dance in itself, but the seed from which grows the dance. They have been working on different ways to develop the motif – changing one or more of the dance elements; running it it in different orders or leaving out or adding parts – and exploring how this can impact upon their motif and, ultimately, their expressive intent – what they wish to communicate.<\/p>\n
