{"id":29038,"date":"2015-09-13T12:53:23","date_gmt":"2015-09-13T12:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/?p=29038"},"modified":"2015-09-13T12:53:23","modified_gmt":"2015-09-13T12:53:23","slug":"find-out-about-our-cis-accreditation-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/2015\/09\/13\/find-out-about-our-cis-accreditation-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Find out about our CIS Accreditation Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>11 things you should know about CIS<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>CIS stands <\/b>for Council of International Schools, and is the leading accrediting organisation of international schools globally &#8211; 660 schools are either members or accredited + over 470 colleges and universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Schools <\/b>can be regular members or accredited members. Regular membership is based on meeting a minimal criteria but accreditation is much tougher, more rigorous and more meaningful. Many of the world\u2019s leading and established international schools are accredited or applying to be accredited. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Criteria<\/b> &#8211; CIS accredit schools who meet a) a quality standard and b) commit to their long term process of a review and reauthorisation cycle every 5 and 10 years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Significant<\/b> <b>Benefits<\/b> of accreditation are: a long term commitment to quality assurance in all areas of school life, it makes schools sustainable, it attracts new students (albeit parents) and teachers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>The accreditation timeline<\/b> is usually about eighteen months to two years. ABIS\u2019s accreditation visit is on November 25th &#8211; December 1 2016. <strong><span style=\"color: #008000\">We are about to start surveying our community and need your feedback!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are <b>6 stages<\/b> to the entire process: 1) A Preliminary Report by the school 2) A Preliminary Visit by CIS <span style=\"color: #000000\">3) An Endicott College survey of the community and a part one report including data on the school and findings from the survey 4) 7 self study groups using evidence to review the school\u2019s 7 areas of operation known as \u2018Standards\u2019<\/span> 5) a final report based on this review 6) a final authorisation visit by a trained CIS team of experienced educators , which will use evidence to measure the school\u2019s progress towards the \u2018Standards\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are<b> 7 quality standards that need to be met:<\/b> (A) Guiding Statements (e.g. mission and vision), (B) Teaching and Learning, (C) Governance\/Leadership (e.g. commitment and understanding), D) Faculty and support (e.g. fair staff contracts), (E) Access to Education (e.g. student support), (F) Culture and partnerships (e.g. parent communication and involvement). (G) Operations (e.g. financial good practice and facility quality).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">8.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>There are four main things they are looking fo<\/b>r: 1) that the school\u2019s commitment to global <\/span><span class=\"s1\">citizenship, 2) that the school\u2019s mission and vision guide its practice, 3) that the school is committed to <\/span><span class=\"s1\">student welfare, 4) that the school is fully committed to the CIS process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">9.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>The culture of CIS<\/b> is about collaborative open and honest reflection on what we do well <\/span><span class=\"s1\">and what we can do better. Our \u2018weaknesses\u2019 should help form our strategic plan of <\/span><span class=\"s1\">improvement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">10.
