This week students published and celebrated writing a research-based argument essay<\/a>. Whilst drafting, students annotated an exemplar<\/a> to raise the level of their writing. Whilst revising, students analyzed a peer’s work using a checklist <\/a>before providing feedback. Whilst editing, students used the same checklist to fine tune and polish their writing. Then, I used a rubric<\/a> to assess each student’s writing. After a plenary session this morning, students realized how their self-assessment might or might not have been in line with both a peer’s and teacher’s feedback. Which begs the question: How did your child(ren) grow as a writer throughout this process?<\/p>\n Using the posters that hung on the walls of our learning space as a guide, take a moment to consider what your child(ren) accomplished.<\/p>\n Students focused on a food-related topic to persuade themselves and their audience to take action.<\/p>\n Students choose a thesis or a claim with reasons to engage their audience.<\/p>\n Students researched and took notes about a food-related topic to choose, analyze, include, and angle the evidence.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2023\/06\/How-to-Write-an-Argument-1-238x300.jpg\")
