<\/a><\/span><\/p>\nWelcome to the end of week 25.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ramadan Kareem to all those of you who are celebrating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We have been busy with our learning this week, for photos of students hard at work learning this week please see a collage below and follow the link below to see more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 2021 2022 Week 25 photos<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Notices & upcoming events:<\/b><\/p>\n Homework<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This week for homework, students have continued their daily reading, Math basic facts practice, Nessy\/ RAZ\/ Epic and weekly spelling words. As a follow up of the videos they watched, students summarised important points of their learning around climate change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Reading, Writing and Inquiry<\/b><\/p>\n Students researched different biomes and developed an understanding of the climate in each by identifying facts related to temperature, rainfall and how climate change is affecting each of the biomes. They also began to research food chains and food webs in order to develop an understanding of interdependence and how keystone species are affected by climate change. We will continue this discussion next week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In language, students were introduced to the elements of a persuasive text. They chose an issue related to climate change and began planning their persuasive writing using a graphic organizer. They identified at least three reasons in support of their argument\/point of view and identified relevant evidence including scientific fact, number fact, anecdote, expert statement, analogy, personal observation and so on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n And now regarding the exhibition, students voted for the best T-shirt design. Congratulations to Fatma B, whose design has been chosen!<\/span><\/p>\n (Insert T shirt logo pic here)<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n How you can help at home:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n By role-modelling simple eco-friendly actions like closing the door when the aircon is on, turning the water off after use, using a glass of water while brushing rather than the running water, use a reusable bag and so on. We are certain that a number of you have your own \u2018do\u2019s\u2019 and \u2018don\u2019ts\u2019 that\u00a0 you follow when it comes to helping the environment and you can have a chat about this with the students. This sharing will be particularly helpful for students next week when they reflect on the impact of human actions on climate change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Maths:<\/b><\/p>\n This week, our math maintenance was tied up with the recalling of fractions and students refreshed\/developing their conceptual understanding of equivalent fractions. Students learnt to apply modelling and numerical strategies to convert between improper and mixed fraction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How you can help at home:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n By providing opportunities to identify and use fractions in real-life situations. Next week, students will apply the concept of factors and multiples to simplify fractions. A strong memory of times tables could help them with fact fluency.
