They were briefed about how vaccines work and how it is normal to possibly experience minor side effects over the next few days. These may include pain near the vaccinated part of the arm, mild fever, headache or nausea. Students were encouraged to let us know if this was the case and could approach the school nurse Ms Amina or us in case they needed any help.

Homework: This week for homework, students have continued their daily reading and weekly spelling words. They have also been asked to watch and review videos related to our unit on climate change. These documentaries help students develop a concrete understanding of the global happenings and relate them to the concepts we learn at school. We hope you have also been enjoying these informative videos.

Reading, Writing and Inquiry: This week, students developed their research skills through guided reading on permafrost, and renewable & non-renewable energy sources. It was interesting to note that they dived deeper into ‘finding out’ as they looked up for more information from sources other than the ones assigned to them. Students reflected on the videos they had watched as part of their homework, and wrote on post-it notes about the positive and negative things they observed.

In language, students used the thesaurus to find interesting adjectives to use instead of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ to describe places, people, food, weather, music & games. Students used the given sentence starters to write complex sentences to express their opinion about varied topics.

In the background, we have not forgotten about our Exhibition! This week students emailed their mentors and most groups had their first meeting. They have begun recording in their journal, recounting how they came up with the central idea and the lines of inquiry for their exhibition.

Most importantly, students were excitedly preparing for the upcoming Student Led Conference next week, by updating their portfolio and writing reflections.

How you can help at home: By having conversations about eco-friendly actions that we can take to mitigate climate change, by role-modelling lifestyle and habits that express conscientious effort to help the environment,

Maths: Apart from the daily maintenance based on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, students interpreted line graphs and completed a data project by collecting, organising and representing data.
