{"id":273794,"date":"2022-04-21T14:26:46","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T10:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/?p=273794"},"modified":"2022-04-21T14:26:46","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T10:26:46","slug":"g6-week-31-in-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abisoman.com\/broadcaster\/2022\/04\/21\/g6-week-31-in-review\/","title":{"rendered":"G6 Week 31 in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear Parents and Students,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another busy week, welcome to the end of week 31 and the second week of our Exhibition unit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For photos of students hard at work learning and having fun this week please see our Grade 6 Picture folder linked below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1lDn0xFQH5q04sumDHpkCCa8XSQnV_r6-?usp=sharing\">2021 2022 Week 31 photos<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Homework<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the unit of inquiry based around the Grade 6 Exhibition, students will have personalised\/ individualised homework where they are required to work on their inquiries daily and to document their learning journey in relation to this. At the same time, students will continue to practice Mathematics basic facts, Reading and Spelling. Please also remember to sign your child\u2019s homework each week. Thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Reading, Writing and Inquiry<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Central Idea:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My passion can be connected to local and global issues and the Action I take may lead to positive change.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For this we will inquire into the following;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will come up with their own lines of inquiry for this unit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0These will come next week\u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Exhibition Journal: Documenting the learning journey (process and product)&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For this unit of inquiry, students are creating an electronic journal and keeping a daily log of what they have done, what they have discovered as well as their thoughts and feelings in light of this. Please do look at this and talk with your children about it. This is where you will gain insight into everything about what is happening for the Exhibition unit, especially what your child is doing in relation to this. This week the Grade 6 class were lucky enough to visit the Sohar Aluminium Plant as a model of the same process we are using for our exhibition. Identifying a passion- in their case making Aluminium, identifying problems or issues around this passion or interest &#8211; for example pollution created by the industrial processes of producing aluminium, inquiring into these, the causes, what can be done about it etc and then putting into action some kind of solution. An example of this might be where Sohar Aluminium is working towards and integrating sustainable development goals around business, personnel, industry and so on. This was a great field trip with lots of information shared and good times had by all. Once we returned from the field trip students completed an exhibition journal entry about the field trip so please do talk with your children about what they are doing for their exhibition and share your thoughts with them about this.\u00a0 Thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Mathematics<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For mathematics this week students have worked on selecting appropriate strategies to solve multi step number problems.Students have also negotiated with me when their next basic facts survey will take place, which is next Wednesday.\u00a0 After that they will have one more basic facts survey which will be part of the data set I use to triangulate gradings for the end of the year. It is their responsibility to practise their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts however if you are able to remind them and help them with this that could be beneficial.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For our Grade 6 schedule please see the link here:<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1nPfQ6fm2MXm5VSOAWhnDkFI-WYXkW0Nh9W3ZAFFDFp4\/edit\"> Grade 6 Ramadan schedule<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Notices\/ Worth Repeating<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Book week coming up: Next week &#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you may know, April 23rd is the 25th anniversary of International Book Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ABIS will be celebrating this the following week, 24th &#8211; 28th April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In recognition of this, the following events\/activities have been organised by the Community Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sunday: Dress as a word\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Monday: whole school will read for 25 minutes after AM break<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tuesday: Genre Hat Day &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your hat represents a book genre, for example a hat with question marks on it represents mystery<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Wednesday: Dress as a book character<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Thursday: Primary &#8211; will find results from the favorite genre voting done all week<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Secondary &#8211; will find out the results from the short story competition.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For an example of what one might do on these days please click on the following link:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/10FRW9a192QVM9i_C5F7kVMmGNTfT33k43ILWuoh_tcw\/edit#slide=id.gea79dffea6_0_5\">Book week prompts presentation<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Regarding Covid 19:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As you will have seen in the news, regarding health and safety protocols around Covid 19, Oman is making moves towards normalcy.
