This week in writer's workshop, students in grade 6 are working on their first piece of writing for the year, a narrative.<\/p>\n

Last week we focused on pre-writing, and we looked at ways we could generate ideas to write about. This week, we've settled on our idea and we've begun drafting. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During one of our mini-lessons, we analyzed a piece of writing that we did last week to check to see if there was balance in our writing. We realized that our writing tended to be heavily action-based, with very little dialogue and character thought, so we've focused on making our characters talk and think all throughout our writing.<\/p>\n

The drafting has improved greatly with this little tip, and our narrative pieces are coming along well. Ask your child to share what they've been working on. Even if it's not yet completed, it's good to share our writing with and receive feedback from as many different sources as possible.<\/p>\n

Speaking of sharing, we had a great sharing session on Wednesday, with Courtney, Claire, Jade, Lotus, and Trina sharing their progress with the room. (I know, no boys names yet, but hopefully next week they'll be risk-takers and take a step forward.<\/p>\n
