Week 10<\/span><\/p>\n

Dear Parents and Students,<\/span><\/p>\n

This week was a short week but a productive one nonetheless. Please see below for notices and highlights\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice:<\/b><\/p>\n

Please note that 3 Way Conferences are coming up. A 3 Way Conference <\/span>actively involves <\/span>parents, students and teachers<\/b> in reflecting on student progress and setting future goals\/targets. More information about this will be shared after we come back from our break.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Swimming\/ PSPE<\/b><\/p>\n

Once we return from our break our swimming \/ PSPE routine will return to normal with Girls swimming on Mondays and boys swimming on Thursdays<\/span><\/p>\n

Homework<\/b><\/p>\n

This week we did not have our normal homework routine because it was a short week however students were issued with their spelling words for the week and a mini inquiry.<\/span><\/p>\n

These will be checked on our return after the break.<\/span><\/p>\n

Again the method of learning spelling words that I have shared with our students is; <\/span>Look, Cover, Say, Write, Check<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading and writing<\/b><\/p>\n

This week our readers and writers have worked on reading with expressions and fluency. For this they have concentrated on changing their voice when reading a \u2018speaking\u2019 part. For this we enjoyed a group of students doing a dramatic read of a story called Go! Go! GO! about fire safety in the home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you to our troupe of performers for this informative and entertaining play.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mathematics<\/b><\/p>\n

This week in Math, students have continued to work on developing their working understanding of basic facts including division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. They accomplished a number of activities that basically dealt with finding the rule and finding the pattern. We also worked on developing their speed and accuracy through various activities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Integrated UOI<\/b><\/p>\n

This week we mainly focused on ending the term by engaging our students in reflective processes where they were able to think about their personal growth over the course of this term as well as setting new goals leading forward.\u00a0 Students were asked to find and photo a sample of their personal writing , reading comprehension, math, UOI and one personal interest piece in order to put it into their portfolios; and be able share it with you. As teachers, clear, open, strong communications between home and school are complementary to the learning progress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Social Studies<\/b><\/p>\n

This week students continued their project on the importance of the Date Palm in Oman. Most students are nearly done with this and we have some very interesting slideshows as a result. In their presentations students have included the value of Dates, the different types of Dates, the place of dates in Omani culture, where they grow, how long they take to grow before they produce fruit and so on. I think our children have benefited a lot from this project as their knowledge and understanding of their host country culture grows through their insight into the most common fruit in Oman. In fact, they became Date experts! ?.\u00a0 As mentioned before, part of this project included students developing their observational drawing skills by drawing some of the palms we have here on campus at ABIS. We have also completed a mini inquiry into the artist Andy Warhol and created our own Pop Art Date tree pictures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Worth Repeating<\/b><\/p>\n

At this stage please do not bring sports equipment such as soccer\/footballs to school as there are certain activities we are unable to participate in due to Covid mitigation measures. Should this situation change, I will of course update you on this.<\/span><\/p>\n
