Life as we know it depends on the barriers membranes present and the conditions maintained within them.<\/p>\n<p>The next time you flex a muscle or have a thought pause and reflect on the symphony of interactions happening at countless cell membranes.<\/p>\n<p>To understand the complexity and to see the ways cells can manage the movement of molecules, ions, and other particles I gave the students. Play dough, pasta, candy, and lentils. They made a two-dimensional model of a cell membranes to see how materials move across the membrane.
