For STEAM this week we investigated the M, Mathematics. The students were given a challenge. Design uncle Jack’s farm so that it has an area of 50m\u00b2\ufffc. We started by drawing all the regular shapes which would give us an area of 50cm\u00b2\ufffc and used a scale of 1cm on the page = 1m in real life. Then the fun began! The students were asked to make an irregular shape which also equaled 50cm\u00b2\ufffc. They all came up with wonderful ideas. When they were correct the students cut out the shape with cardboard. Our next task is to make a fence for the farm. This will remind us about perimeter.<\/p>\n
