What a difference a week can make! There is a lot to learn but it already feels like we are a class who belongs together.<\/p>\n

This week we focused on the idea that we all bring different things to our community and that \u201cwe are like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. We are all unique, and have our own special place in the puzzle of the universe. Without each of us, the puzzle is incomplete.\u201d – Rod Williams (musician)

\nYour children may have been talking about Elmer the patchwork elephant. We used Elmer\u2019s story and a teamwork activity to explore these ideas. David McKee\u2019s stories about Elmer are lovely to look at and spark great discussion – you may want to look out for these to share with your children.<\/p>\n

In maths we  organised data about ourselves to identify similarities and differences in our class. We have been sorting other information to understand that there are a variety of ways of interpreting and talking about things.<\/p>\n

\nOur more \u2018formal curriculum\u2019 work is being underpinned by developing strong classroom routines which will enable the learners to \u2018own\u2019 their space and develop self management skills. I am already enjoying a little more independence in the way they are starting to approach their writing.
\nGrade 1 has \u2018earnt\u2019 their long weekend! I hope you all enjoy the extra time with your families.<\/p>\n
