Ever wonder why dancers do what they do? or What message could lie beneath the surface of a dance? or How a dance became the way it is? These questions and more were explored by our guest speaker, author and professor, Stacey Prickett PhD from Roehampton University in England.
\nGrade 9, 11, and 12 students were treated to this special guest here at ABIS this week, Wednesday. Dr. Prickett is officially a dance \/ anthropologist which, to be honest, most of us had never heard of. She described to us with examples about how different styles of dance evolve over time, often to address a societal need, spurred by political, economic, or social stimulus. She described how dancers hold a special place in the world and how the art of dance can influence society. It was great to see this presentation that was clearly a multi-disciplinary approach to learning. This presentation was a gentle reminder that what we do in school truly is all interconnected and there is always so much more we can learn. <\/p>\n
